The field population towards the globular cluster NGC 6553

چکیده
We analyze the colour magnitude diagram of the field population in the direction of the bulge cluster NGC 6553 to discuss the stellar field component projected towards the cluster. In particular we investigate the nature of a peculiar feature, called “red flare” which appears as a faint turnoff, located 2 magnitudes about below the turnoff of the cluster, with a sparse trace of a sub-giant branch just above. A detailed modeling shows that the red flare is consistent with the expected location of the turnoff and sub-giant branch of the bulge population, once that the appropriate metallicity range and spatial distribution of the bulge stars are adopted. From the data, hints can be derived about the spatial shape and the basic stellar parameters of the bulge.

WFPC2 images obtained with the Hubble Space telescope 4.16 years apart have allowed us to measure the proper motion of the metal rich globular cluster NGC 6553 with respect to the background bulge stars. With a space velocity of (Π, Θ, W) = (-3.5, 230,-3) km s −1 , NGC 6553 follows the mean rotation of both disk and bulge stars at a Galactocentric distance of 2.7 kpc. While the kinematics of th...
متن کاملHigh - resolution abundance analysis of two individual stars of the bulge globular cluster NGC 6553 ?
A detailed abundance analysis of 2 giants of the metal-rich bulge globular cluster NGC 6553 was carried out using high resolutionéchelle spectra obtained at the ESO 3.6m telescope. The temperature calibration of metal-rich cool giants needs high quality photometric data. We have obtained JK photometry at ESO and VI photometry with the Hubble Space Telescope for NGC 6553. The main purpose of thi...

متن کاملA new , cleaner colour - magnitude diagram for the metal - rich globular cluster NGC 6528 and the velocity dispersion in the Galactic Bulge
Using two epochs of observations with HST/WFPC2 we obtain the stellar proper motions for all stars in the field. The proper motions are used to separate the bulge from the cluster stars. The stellar sequences in the resulting colour-magnitude diagram (CMD) are better defined than in any previously published CMD. Using α-enhanced stellar isochrones we find NGC 6528 to have a probable age of 11± ...
متن کامل1 High resolution infrared spectra of bulge globular clusters : Liller 1 and NGC 6553
Using the NIRSPEC spectrograph at Keck II, we have obtained echelle spectra covering the range 1.5 − 1.8 μm for 2 of the brightest giants in Liller 1 and NGC 6553, old metal rich globular clusters in the Galactic bulge. We use spectrum synthesis for the abundance analysis, and find [Fe/H] = −0.3 ± 0.2 and [O/H] = +0.3± 0.1 (from the OH lines) for the giants in both clusters. We measure strong l...
